The principles of teaching women to take care of themselves and their families have been incorporated into every aspect of Sheffield Place's design and daily operation. This creates a strong foundation for continued success once a family leaves.

Sheffield Place provides long-term shelter and support services to 15 families. Families can stay up to 24 months and are expected to make at least 6-month commitment to the program. Each family has its own two-room living unit that includes a private bath. Four to five families share a kitchen, dining room, and laundry room on the three residential floors. Sheffield Place is ADA accessible and offers an ADA living unit on the main floor.

In order to replicate life in the 'real world', Sheffield Place provides 'real life' experiences in a supportive environment that allow our families to develop and practice the skills necessary to help them remain successful when they move into their own home. These include but are not limited to:

  • Paying a program fee in a timely manner
  • Taking care of the living unit and shared living spaces
  • Sharing responsibilities for cleaning and floor leadership
  • Preparing healthy food on a tight budget
  • Solving problems by talking with people in a positive manner
  • Putting money into savings each month to prepare for the future
  • Resolving debt

We truly believe that once a family completes the program they will be prepared to take on the challenges of the real world and we are very proud of those who are working so very hard to maintain their dream of self-sufficiency!
