Overview

Sheffield Place uses integrated supportive services that include evidence-based practices, family system theory, consumer driven activities, and recovery orientation to empower our families to heal from their trauma.

Sheffield Place is the only long-term transitional living program in Kansas City that serves only homeless mothers and their children.  Five programs are designed to address the underlying causes of homelessness.  The “7-Step Empowerment Program” encompasses case management and adult educational services.  Therapeutic Services is a mental health and recovery program providing individual counseling, support groups, family therapy, and continuing care.  Residential Services provides safe, affordable housing for up to two years.  Children’s Clinical Services (also known as Project H.O.P.E.) offers a structured, therapeutic and developmental-based program that identifies risk factors and prepares action plans for both children and parents. Health Care Services began in October 2011.  In collaboration with Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, a nurse practitioner offers primary health services (treatment, prevention, and education services) for the mothers and children 5 hours each week. Our services are provided onsite where families live, increasing participation in critical services such as mental health therapy and addiction services.
