Weyforth-Haas Marketing

Our friends from Weyforth-Haas Marketing spent a warm July Saturday on some much needed tasks.  Twenty employees and their family waterproofed our fence, tackled some landscaping, stripped the parking lot and much more.  In spite of the heat, they finished everything on our list and offered to return in the Fall.  Sheffield Place is so very grateful for our friends at Weyforth-Haas and welcomes them back anytime.  Special thanks to Alison Hill for organizing this special day!

St. Peter’s School

Is working closely with a SP family in order to provide her son the uniforms, school supplies, and transportation he needs so he can continue going to school there.  Special thanks to Angie Meyer and Sheri Dishong.

State Line Service League

Purchased bedding and bath items for the families of Sheffield Place.  This group of volunteers has been providing their volunteer time in the community for more than 10 years.  Thank you Laura Shultz and the rest of SL2.  We appreciate your friendship and commitment to our community!

Versent

Our technology partner Versent (“The Purple Guys”) proved again just how big their hearts are at the HopSnobs event on June 27th.  Four Versent employees volunteered the entire event.  Their big, purple umbrellas saved the day and were a big hit with arriving guests who were trying to dodge raindrops.  Thank you!

Molly’s Table

The mothers and children of Sheffield Place were invited to Molly’s Table for dinner, crafts, and fun on June 28th.  Molly’s Table is a program of The Colonial Church in Prairie Village.  Thank you Missy Sullivan and the rest of the Molly’s Table family for your hospitality!

Function Junction Supply Drive

Close to $700 worth of items were donated during the Function Junction supply drive in May 2007.  As a result, Function Junction has given SP $300 in Function Junction dollars to spend at the store.  Function Junction has committed to doing the drive again next May and will add another drive in February 2008.

We are so grateful for the support of Mary Merola and Rebecca Wilkie.

Kansas City Women’s Chorus

The Kansas City Women's Chorus designates a different organization to receive proceeds from each of its two concerts each year.  This year, the proceeds from our Spring concert were given to Sheffield Place.  In addition, the Women’s Chorus recognized Willa Stillman as an unsung hero.  Willa, a graduate of Sheffield Place, now works full-time at Sheffield Place as the Residential Assistant.  Thank you ladies!  Please visit their website for information about their activities and upcoming concerts.   www.kcwomenschorus.org

Lee’s Summit Community Christian School

The Kindergarten class made “Cuddle Pillows” for the children at Sheffield Place.  Thank you students and teachers!

The Kansas City Star Linen Drive

Readers of The Kansas City Star responded tremendously to a Star sponsored drive to collect linen supplies for four nonprofit organizations including Sheffield Place.  Alice Lemmons, Operations Manager, helped KC Star writer Lisa Gutierrez, deliver much needed pillows, sheets, and blankets on February 16, 2007.  Later that afternoon, Brandi, a Sheffield Place volunteer, sorted and inventoried the donations.   “I’m thrilled with this drive”, said Alice Lemmons.  “The KC Star Linen Drive will put a huge dent in our linen purchasing for 2007!”

Health Care Foundation Grants

Two grants from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City were awarded to Sheffield Place in November 2006 that will change the way we provide services to homeless mothers and children at Sheffield Place.   The first grant will combine the resources of Sheffield Place, KC University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB), UMKC School of Nursing, and a certified fitness trainer.  Together we will create and implement programming that will serve to improve the health and well-being of families living at Sheffield Place.  The Foundation awarded Sheffield Place a 2-year grant of $139,000 for this project.  The second grant, a $50,000 agency defined grant, will allow us to complete strategic planning in our children’s program and train staff on best practice therapeutic interventions.  Grant activities are now underway.

REACH Healthcare Grant

A $25,000 grant from the REACH Healthcare Foundation will enable Sheffield Place to develop a Pathways To Care program which will improve access to care and empower homeless families to take control over their own healthcare.  This grant will allow rely on the support and involvement of students from KCUMB and UMKC School of Nursing.
